Bulmer's 'Steamer'
William Bulmer and his 'Steamer.'

William Bulmer was interested in marine transportation, having built the first steamboat in Windsor in 1886. An avid inventor, in around 1900 Bulmer built a steam-powered automobile for his personal use. The job took about six months and Bulmer designed and made all the parts himself.

Bulmer's steamer had a 50-pound marine engine under the two-passenger seat and a boiler of 400 pounds pressure. It carried 18 gallons of water and enough gasoline to keep the engine running for 100 miles at 20 miles an hour.

He had no intention of going into production but did drive the vehicle for about a year.
