Rebuilding of the H.M.S Detroit

Rebuilding of the H.M.S Detroit

A group of people is presently fundraising to build a replica of the H.M.S. Detroit. They are based in Amherstburg, in the Gordon House. The group is called "Project H.M.S. Detroit." Once the boat is done, they are hoping to use it as a tourist attraction and an educational tool. It is to become Canada's Flag Ship and Ambassador of Friendship.
The hull of the boat was completed in the summer of 2002. It was launched on Aug. 17, 2002 and christened by M.P. Susan Whelan on Aug. 24, 2002.
