Champion built its first plant at Howard Avenue and Hanna in 1919 and opened with considerable fanfare on Feb 16, 1920, with a projected initial production set for 40,000 spark plugs a day.

Charlie Speers (pictured left), then manager of Champion, drove with co-worker Cal Evans from Windsor to Vancouver, promoting their plugs and becoming the first Canadians to cross the Rockie Mountains in a car.

The company is still a major figure on Windsor's industrial scene with its a plant on Lauzon Parkway.
