Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ATSDR)
ATSDR is the principal federal public health agency involved with hazardous waste issues. The agency helps prevent or reduce the harmful effects of exposure to hazardous substances on human health. ATSDR is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The site features an internal search engine as well as an A to Z index of topics. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The CDC addresses a wide range of health-related topics. The Environmental Health section of their website features a table of contents where searchers can choose from a variety of topics, including air quality, carbon monoxide, food safety, hazardous waste sites, pesticides, and water quality. It also features upcoming conferences and meetings in environmental health. The website provides easy access to links containing publications and products as well as data and statistics. Council on Environmental Quality
The Council on Environmental Quality coordinates federal environmental efforts and works closely with agencies and other White House offices in the development of environmental policies and initiatives. Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE)
GLOBE is a hands-on international environmental science and education program. GLOBE links students, teachers, and the scientific research community in an effort to learn more about the environment through student data collection and observation. Students in schools throughout the world conduct a continuing program of scientifically meaningful environmental measurements. GLOBE students transmit their data to a central data processing facility via the Internet, receive vivid images composed of their data and data from other GLOBE schools around the world, acquire information form a variety of sources, and collaborate with scientists and other GLOBE students and communities worldwide in using these data for education and research.

MEDLINEPlus – Environmental Health
MEDLINEPlus is a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. The Environmental Health page provides current consumer health information. Searchable topics include latest news on environmental health, articles from the National Institutes of Health, information on current research, statistics, and information aimed at children and teenagers. The searcher can also choose to link to medical articles in MEDLINE on the topics of general environmental health, hazardous waste, and water pollution. National Center for Environmental Health (CDC)
This is the National Center for Environmental Health’s section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Their purpose is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and/or controlling diseases or deaths that result from interactions between people and the environment. The site provides an alphabetical list of environmental health topics from which to choose. It also spotlights upcoming conferences and symposiums covering environmental health issues. It contains a list of emergency preparedness links as well as a list of quick links to make navigating the site much easier. Additionally, it tells when the information on the page was last updated.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)
The NIEHS is one of the National Institutes of Health. It is within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This is a user-friendly site with quick links to press releases, meetings and events, an alphabetical index of environmental health topics, and a link to “Environmental Health Perspectives”, or EHP online, which provides peer-reviewed research and news on various environmental factors. The site also contains sections on community outreach and children’s pages.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) K-12 Education Initiatives

This is a wonderful compilation of environmental health resources provided by the National Library of Medicine. It provides links to TOXNET, databases in toxicology and environmental health; links to internet resources on current issues such as chemical warfare agents and Environmental Justice; a link to Haz-Map, a database on hazardous chemicals and occupational diseases; a toxicology tutorial; a link to NLM’s Listserv on Environmental Health and Toxicology Information; consumer health links on toxicology and environmental health; a link to MEDLINE/PubMed; and various other resources such as reference material including bibliographies, glossaries, and reports; and a link to NLM Gateway, which allows the user to search multiple NLM databases. Navy Occupational and Environmental Medicine Home Page
While this site is aimed toward those in the military, it contains information that pertains to civilians as well. Resources available on this site include information about Pediatric Lead Poisoning Prevention, an occupational health program evaluation guide, and a link to various environmental health topics, including links to articles pertaining to environmental health, links to Navy, government, and professional organizations involved in occupational and environmental medicine.

Washington DC Department of Health – Environmental Health Administration
The mission of the Environmental Health Administration is to prevent and control environmentally related diseases while protecting and preserving the ecological system in the District of Columbia. The Environmental Health Administration is comprised of the following four bureaus: Bureau of Hazardous Materials and Toxic Substances; Bureau of Food, Drug and Radiation; Bureau of Environmental Quality; and Bureau of Community Hygiene. The administration also coordinates all multimedia requests/inspections, reviews submissions for requests received pursuant to the Environmental Policy Act, represents the departmental environmental interest on boards, commissions, and committees, and provides staff support for all environmental outreach events sponsored by the Administration.
