Becky Discusses Breastfeeding Topics
This site is developed and maintained by Becky Flor, BSed, IBCLC (lactation consultant). This is a Canadian site that offers numerous articles to educate and support parents with breastfeeding. “The information in this collection has been reprinted with permission from LLLI publications, primarily NEW BEGINNINGS, the bimonthly publication for LLL members, as well as from other LLL sources. Many of the articles feature true stories of mothers' experiences with breastfeeding.” Some of the topics covered on this site include: General breastfeeding information (benefits, reasons to start, bicultural issues, myths, milk benefits etc.), Breastfeeding adopted babies, Dental caries and breastfeeding (pediatric dentists’ perspective, fluoride treatments and much more), Breastfeeding disabled/handicapped babies, Nutrition information and recipes, SIDS, Breastfeeding with implants, Weaning and other issues surrounding the social, emotional and physical adjustment that comes along with breastfeeding and the new baby. The site also offers research abstracts as well as full text research from scholarly articles.

“The mission of Breastfeeding Help! is to encourage mothers to breastfeed by providing reliable professional support, building confidence and solving problems.” This site is maintained by Heisje deJong who is a registered lactation consultant as well as a mother. Some of the topics discussed pertaining to breastfeeding include: advantages for mom and the baby, how the breast works, prenatal nipple care, positioning baby at breast, how often and how long should the baby be breastfed, is baby getting enough, nipple confusion, pacifiers, night feeding, when your baby cries, engorgement, plugged ducts, breast infection, sore nipples, breastfeeding at work, breast milk storage and handling, pumping, flat/inverted nipples, and thrush. This is an informative site that offers practical answers to breastfeeding and breast pumps. This is an excellent resource site that offers a collection of frequently asked questions on breastfeeding, online reports, and press releases. Mother's Guide to Breastfeeding; The first 6 weeks
This guide can only be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is an excellent guide which provides easy to read practical information on many challenges of nursing. The guide discusses the choice of breastfeeding, preparing for breastfeeding during pregnancy, breast milk facts (growth advantages, etc), first few days and weight expectations, positions (cuddle hold, football hold, cross cuddle hold, side-lying position), latching on, let down reflex, nipple soreness, engorgement, flat/inverted nipples, mastitis, nipple confusion, perceived lack of milk and other helpful tips.
