This is an excellent site for information on many aspects of lung health.

Some of the information found on this site includes: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (i.e. emphysema, chronic bronchitis, alpha 1- antitrypsin deficiency), asthma information (disease information, control etc), interstitial lung disease (sarcoidosis, asbestosis, Wegener’s granulomatosis, fibrosis etc.), lung transplant information, pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory medications (such as albuterol, salmeterol, etc.), cystic fibrosis and much more.
Lung Information for Patients and the General Public
This site is hosted by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, a division of the National Institute of Health (American). The primary concern of the institute is to research treatments and technologies relating to various disorders. The lung information presented includes dealing with asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), smoking, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), pulmonary hypotension, respiratory failure, and sarcodiosis. Information presented about disorders is aimed at both patients and parents of children with disorders. It is presented in “plain English” with definitions where medical terminology is necessary.

This is an excellent educational site sponsored by ViaHealth Medical Center of Rochester New York. Some of the topics which this site discusses include: anatomy of the respiratory system (what is respiration, what makes up the respiratory system, what is the function of the lungs), upper respiratory infections (acute bronchitis, influenza), lung disease and disorders (COPD, asthma, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, primary pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, lung cancer), pulmonary rehabilitation, and sleep disorders (associated with respiratory disorders). This site also provides information on support groups throughout the U.S.
National Lung Health Education Program
The NLHEP strives to improve lung health and to prevent lung diseases through public education. The site provides information on lung anatomy, COPD, asthma, diagnoses (especially spirometry), and treatments. Strong emphasis is placed upon smoking cessation and a large amount of material is offered to this end.
The Canadian Lung Association
This is an excellent site featuring lung disease information, quick Canadian facts and statistics, Children’s page (health information such as, “why we have lungs”), drug information, support group information throughout Canada, and specific Respiratory Condition Health Information. Some of the conditions this site addresses include: living with lung disease, asthma, chronic lung disease, tuberculosis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, cancer of the lungs, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia and much more.
The Ontario Lung Association: Health Information
This site is operated by the Ontario Lung Association, a charity organization that promotes awareness of the importance of lung health, and provides both patient support and information about the lungs and lung disorders. The Lung Health site offers information about asthma, the common cold, influenza, pneumonia, tuberculosis, emphysema, and lung cancer. There are several sections dealing with smoking and its effects on lung health. There is also a section of community services offered through the Ontario Lung Association.
